There once was a little shop called Dot. and here is how it all started, dot. was conceived by me, Izzie. now before we get started here's a little bit about me.
I am in my 20s and Dot. is my first shop, I was born in Hereford, uk (where the shop is based). I studied art and design at the local art college HCA, this is where my passion for all things bright and beautiful came from. I am particularly obsessed with ceramics and love to make unique pieces myself.
Now I hear you ask how did a 20 something open her own shop? well that's a good question. Having my own shop has always been a dream of mine and on one December night my dad was scrolling through the internet and up pops unit 4, Capuchin Yard! He turned and asks the question "would you like your own shop?" to which I obviously said yes! the next day we went to have a look at my soon to be little shop and the rest is history. I collected the keys in January and started to crack on turning the shop into the vision I had in my head before opening on the 12th April 2021.
After the sucess of our first year we expaned the shop in March 2022. The expansion of the shop has given us the oppertunity to stock even more briliant British makers, illlustrators and designers. As the shop has doubled in size it has become bigger, better and brighter than I ever imagined it to be. Going forward I hope the shop keeps growing to accomidate more creative indirviduals.
Now for the name Dot. I wonder where that came from? well the shop is named after my late grandma Dorothy who everyone called Dot. when thinking of names I wanted something personal yet simple and that's how the name came about. My grandma showed me what it meant to be a strong, caring and wonderful woman. these are qualities I have tried to instil into myself when things get tough, and wow opening a shop is tough!!!
The ethos behind the shop is pretty simple, I keep the work we sell as local as possible only sourcing off makers, illustrators and designers from the UK. I hand pick everything myself and deal with the amazing makers too, this is by far the best part of the job!
Thank you for coming along on the journey of my little shop dot. I'm sure there will be more tales to tell as the shop grows.
